Saturday, the 8th of October 2016 was the foundation stone laying ceremony for the ASI Ukpo Oncology Centre in Calabar.

Former Head of State and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, General Abdusalami A. Abubakar (rtd), was the special guest of honour at this momentous occassion.

Also in attendance were the Governor of Cross River State, His Excellency, Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade and his wife Dr. Linda Ayade; the wife of the Niger state governor, Dr. Amina Abubakar; the former governor of Cross River state, His Excellency Mr. Donald Duke and his wife Onari Duke; the Obong of Calabar, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi-Otu V as well as other royal fathers, members of the state executive council, service commanders, former and existing government officials and other dignitaries.

We were honoured by their presence and very happy that we had such an auspicious beginning to the project.

The ASI Ukpo Oncology Centre is primed to be the premier cancer treatment centre in West Africa and the first step in our journey to grow the ASI Ukpo Diagnostics & Medical Centre brand into the number one healthcare provider in Nigeria and on the continent.

Offering External beam therapy treatment, brachytherapy treatment, a maternity ward and general purpose surgery theatre using state-of-the-art equipment and some of the best specialists in the country to run them, we plan to offer treatment to complement our already existing diagnostic facility.

The centre is being situated on the same site as our existing diagnostic centre and we plan to have it operational within a year.

The main contractors working on this project are Megastar Technical & Construction Company Limited - who are handling the construction of the entire hospital site, and JNC International Limited - our medical equipment providers and consultants.
